Tasting Note Wine Advocate (WA/RP) 94/100 (2008) David Schildknecht The Bouchard 2008 Le Corton offers especially saline and spicy accents to its deep red fruit and raw meat, sirloin juice-like flavors. Cedar, fresh ginger, white pepper, blond tobacco, and vanilla bean all make for a pungent aromatic and palate display, and a rich, almost velvety texture is reconciled with the sort of nearly electric vivacity and finishing resonance of which this vintage is so singularly and memorably capable. “The middle sector of the hillside gives the silkiness and the old vines backbone,” remarks Prost but the young vines and higher elevations, he goes on to explain aid the sense of vivacity. This should prove to be worth following for the better part of two decades. What’s more, it represents amazing value not only for a grand cru but more importantly for a red Burgundy this outstanding. Wine Advocate (WA/RP) 90-92/100 (2012) Neal Martin The 2012 Le Corton Grand Cru comes from 2.4 hectares of vine on chalky soils. It has a very attractive bouquet with abundant red cherry and wild strawberry scents that are very well-defined. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannins, velvety smooth in the mouth with pure redcurrant and strawberry fruit. The oak is a little conspicuous at the moment (around 35% new) but it is very well assimilated on the finish. This is a well-crafted Corton. Wine Spectator 92/100 (2008) This is fresh, with lovely cherry, raspberry and red currant flavors. The tannins are ripe and well-integrated, though this needs a few years to come together. Offers nice balance, with mineral and spice on the aftertaste. Best from 2013 through 2026 Wine Spectator 91/100 (2012) Ripe, rich and spicy, this red is intensely flavored, featuring wild cherry and strawberry fruit, with anise, sandalwood and mineral notes. Sleek, yet almost chewy, with lingering spice accents. Best from 2018 through 2028. BH 94/100 (2010) A brooding but impressively complex nose features notes of red currant, plum, earth and plenty of that Corton sauvage character. The textured, intense and broad-shouldered flavors possess excellent mid-palate concentration with fully mature structural elements. There is ample buffering sap, which is important as one would reasonably expect, this is a big and sleekly muscled wine with an explosively long, linear and overtly austere finish. The potential here is mostly impressive though note that plenty of patience is requisite.
