Tasting Note eRobert Parker / WA : 86-88/100 Neal Martin The 2012 Pommard 1er Cru Epenots is a blend of Grand and Petit Epenots; two parcels that together make 0.60-hectares. It has a fresh, vibrant bouquet with lush blackberry and raspberry fruit. The palate has a structured entry with good acidity. This feels masculine, a little “distant” compared to the Volnay and Aloxe-Corton, with a slightly attenuated but fresh finish. Fine – but it needs to come out of its shell by the time of bottling. Burghound (BH) : 88/100 Allen Meadows There is just enough wood to notice framing the pure red currant, spice and strong earth aromas. The medium-bodied flavors display fine intensity and volume with good richness on the mid-palate though the finish is slightly drying. This may age out successfully but I have concerns that the dryness may become more prominent with age. Note that the structure is certainly present such that this could be aged but it's not clear that the wine will necessarily be the better for it. Wine Maker Tasting Note : Nice garnet colour. Complex nose with oaky notes, red fruits and mellow berry aromas. Suave and well-balanced bouquet on the palate, this wine shows great substance and rare elegance. Good ageing potential, but very pleasant in its youth. Match with red meat, game, or matured cheese.
