Tasting Note Robert Parker (RP) 95/100 This wine still possesses a dense, youthful, plum/garnet color to the rim, with very little lightening. The first vintage for Pavie under Chantal and Gérard Perse, the 1998 is full-bodied, showing lots of cedar wood, forest floor, roasted herbs, black cherry and blackcurrant and new saddle leather. It is quite full-bodied, opulent and seems to be just entering its plateau of full maturity, where it should last another 15-20 years. Wine Advocate (WA) 95/100 Neal Martin I have always found much to enjoy in this, Gerard Perse’s sophomore vintage. Now at 15 years of age it is maturing in pleasing fashion with slightly pinched blackberry fruit infused with black olive and iodine. There is real backbone on the palate: sensual dark cherry and kirsch fruit, touches of cassis coming through with great poise and refinement on the finish. Pretty irresistible now, though it should last another 15 years without too much problem. Tasted December 2012. Wine Spectator (WS) 92/100 Lots of wood, cedar, vanilla and ripe fruit on the nose. Violets too. Full-bodied, with supersilky tannins, yet they are still chewy. This needs some more bottle age to resolve the slightly angular and woody tannins. But it's full of stuffing.—'88/'98 Bordeaux blind retrospective (2008). Best after 2011 Jancis Robinson 18/20 When to drink: 2008 to 2018 Still blackish hints in the crimson. Sweet spicy notes on the nose. Quite complex and intriguing without being exaggerated. Lovely balance and follow through. Long and neat. This wine is really rewarding. Just slightly dry on the finish. Hint of orange peel. Jancis Robinson Jeannie Cho Lee 95/100 This is the Perse family's first vintage and they were incredibly successful. An elegant Pavie with moderate weight but packed with detailed, layered flavours. Wonderful to enjoy now. Tasted in: Bordeaux, France Doctor Wine 95/100 A wine of great concentration beginning with its dark, almost impenetrable red color. The aroma is decidedly fruity with classic scents of blueberry and blackberry, hide and fine leather. The mouthfeel is broad, rich, rounded and vigorous, with its velvet sensation leaving one’s taste bud very satisfied.
